"My 13 year old daughter has taken lessons with Ali for close to 2 years now. What an amazing experience it has been. My daughter has grown not only as a rider, she has gained confidence, patience and she is a happier teen. I highly recommend Ali and Liberty Reins for kids and adults! You will learn so much more than how to ride." 🐴❤️

Individual/Group Lessons

Horseback riding lessons are a great way to develop so much more than riding skills. Liberty Reins owner, Allison, is a former 15-year school teacher and brings her experience from the classroom into the arena. She has a lifetime of horse experience to share with all of her students and is certified as an Equine Specialist through a global organization called Eagala. Additionally, she has taken numerous trainings for the Masterson Method and is currently working towards the Equine Specialist certification. Other training includes numerous Buck Brannaman clinics (both auditing and participaing with a horse), Warwick Schiller member, One Ride Away Challenge with Steve Rother, and more. She takes all her knowledge into each lesson to give a unique lesson experience for each client.

We strive to have each student have an experience that is very unique to him/her and their individual needs and goals. Careful thought is put into helping each rider progress in their riding skills, but also in other areas such as confidence, assertiveness, independence, and leadership. Most people that have spent time with horses will testify to their ability to help us grow in ways that were never part of the original goal.

Lessons will include all aspects of riding from fetching the horse to putting the horse away and all steps in between. The ultimate goal is for the student to gain independence in the skills necessary to safely handle and ride any horse, not just the lesson horse they with which they work.

Groups can be created by the clients themselves or we can try and place you in a group. Friend groups or sibling groups are the most common. Due to the fact that we work with a lot of beginners here at Liberty Reins, LLC, individual instruction is important for safety of both horse and rider and all groups will need to be approved by the instructor.

Our lessons fall into the following categories, each with different pricing (see below). If you are unsure where you would fit, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask, we are happy to discuss this with you.

Billing: Billing is done on a monthly basis and payments are due on the 1st of each month. There is a seven day grace period after which there is a $20 late payment charge. If it becomes necessary to miss your regular spot, a reasonable effort must be made to reschedule the missed lesson. If we are not able to find a mutual time, then the missed lesson can be credited to the next month but must be discussed with the owner to confirm. Please note that rescheduling sometimes means joining another lesson for the make-up but the difference in cost will not be credited back. That being said, if there are extenuating circumstances we are happy to discuss reasonable accommodations.

Private Lesson 60 min - $70 (Weekly)

These lessons are for any clients that are not able to independently fetch and tack up their horse. This includes current clients as well as those that are new to our program and new to riding. Newbies to our program will start by receiving instruction on basic skills such as haltering, grooming, and general ground work.

Semi-Private 60 min - $60 (Weekly)

These lessons are for those clients that can do most of the tack-up process themselves, but might need a little help here and there. Semi-private lessons are two people and these could be siblings, but also two clients at about the same level that we group together if both parties agree. These clients usually have some expeirence, but are not yet able to fetch a horse and tack them up on their own.

Group - $60 (Weekly)

These groups consist of clients that are able to fetch their horse and tack up properly on their own. Group size will mostly likely be 3 or 4 depending on the group.

Trial/Evaluation/Single Lessons - $75 (private), $60 semi-private (2)

Trial - for those that want to try things out and not commit to a regular spot

Evaluation - for those that need to see where they fit such as determining if they can qualify for a group

Single - for those that just want to stop in from time to time and take a lesson, but not attend regularly

Every Other Week Lessons*

Liberty Reins offers lessons every other week in the same categories as above, but the pricing is $5 more per lesson. There are two main reasons behind this price difference. First, progress is much slower when clients are only coming every other week. We support those that are not able to commit to weekly lessons so we desire to continue to offer this option. The second reason is that liability insurance increases with more clients and having clients that are every other week potentially doubles our liability insurance cost so the additional charge helps offset that cost as well.

*existing clients as of 9/1/2023 are grandfathered in to regular pricing for every other week.

All visitors to the barn must fill out a release form for the Barn and for Liberty Reins. Click on the names to fill out the forms online.

Suburban Trail Ride - Take a nice ride through the middle of suburbia!

  • One of our most popular offerings, our suburban trail ride allows for a minimal time commitment and also allows for potentially larger groups since we do not have to trailer horses anywhere.

  • Ride includes segments along a street and around the property.

  • Experience includes participating in grooming and tacking up the horses.

  • Includes short instructional time so each rider can guide their own horses on the ride (with assistance as needed).

Day Trip

  • Day-long commitment for a 2-hour trail ride at various locations. Actual length of the day trip depends on destination for the ride (beach or state parks).

  • Cost:  Varies depending on location of trip. Call or e-mail for details.*

  • Minimum of one lesson prior to trip for instructor to evaluate riding abilities and determine if a trail ride is safe.

  • We'll explore different trails in Oregon at State Parks or the beach.

  • Minors must have a parent or legal guardian sign our consent form.

Family Rides - typically 1-hour but can be expanded for more teaching

  • Family rides allow for families to ride together.  This experience is very unique to each individual family.

  • Maximum number of people depends on availability of my helpers and horses.

*Prices are dependent on number of riders and experience level of the rider, and location of ride.
