TEEN TIME - Group for HS Teens

Starting January 23, 2023!

Life is hard sometimes; it just is. We may put on a happy face for those around us, but when we're alone our smile can fade. Why is that? What drives us to pretend in front of other people? Do we even know who we really are anymore?

It is not uncommon for people to put on so many masks that they lose sight of where the facade ends and their true self begins. Typically it happens slowly, but before we know it we are merely a shell of who we once were. Sure we change over time and that is good; we call that growth. The real question becomes, "When we change, are we growing or just blending in; being who someone else wants us to be?"

Come explore with us and with the horses. Let them show you things about yourself and about the world around you. Our equine friends have this non-judgemental way of being fully present with us, no matter what kind of baggage we carry into our time with them. They are strong and will carry that weight for us if we let them. They will help us see that we are stronger than we know and have so much to offer this world and to others if we can just believe it.

Restoring Life is a six-week equine-assisted therapy group designed to help teens navigate this important time of their life, including the impact of the pandemic on their social and emotional life. This group is very client-driven, and we are always looking to the horses for what comes up and what direction we need to head. That being said, the topics covered include, but are not limited to:

Testimonial from a former teen (now 20) that spent time with our herd

"The words that come to mind while I was reading through  [group information] were, guided growth, reclaiming yourself, rebirth (which always reminds me of the Phoenix myth rising from the ashes). My impression after reading it was that it's a place where you can just be raw and let those personas fade away. Where you can find who you are underneath each barrier. The weight of the burdens you carry, the ones that seem impossible to carry, just feel light with that connection with a horse. Personally, from my own experiences with horses there's always a moment of clarity where they just seem to help in such a silent sort of way, but the energy of it is loud. You just feel like the weight's been lifted off your shoulders. Everything listed are all lessons the horses teach us even if we don't really realize it for a while."

No horse experience needed!
